We invest in young men in the 11th grade by providing them with a hands-on civics education and helping them develop/hone their leadership skills. We also help them explore college options and apply to college.
Because: 1) our future depends on today's young people; 2) our young people deserve every opportunity that we can afford to give them; and 3) because people invest in people they care about.
By making a donation to our cause, so that we can invest as much in our young people as we possibly can.
Are you an 11th grader that lives in or near the South Jamaica Houses? Then you should join us! Click the "Join Us" button below. We'll e-mail you with the next steps. Don't delay! Only a limited number of spaces are available.
Civic Duty is a program of A Better Jamaica, Inc. – a Jamaica, Queens based and focused non-profit with a mission of engaging in activities designed to strengthen the set of southeast Queens neighborhoods known collectively as Jamaica. The Spring of 2022 Civic Duty cohort is the first-ever cohort.
An important part of the Civic Duty program is its focus on the college exploration and application process. College exploration should begin no later than the 11th grade.
Young men and women – particularly of high school age – are often distracted by each other. In order to minimize the distractions within a cohort, we've decided to make each cohort single gender. In the future, it is likely that we will provide a cohort for women.
